CBSE Board Exam 2027: Expected Date Sheet, Pattern & Preparation Plan
The CBSE board exam 2027 for Class 10 and Class 12 is expected to begin in mid-February 2027, based on previous years. CBSE had not released the official date sheet when this post was published, so check the official site (cbse.gov.in) for the final schedule.
With roughly 100 days to go, this guide covers the expected timeline, the paper pattern, and a month-by-month preparation plan.
Expected Timeline (Based on Previous Years)
| Event | Expected timing | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Date sheet release | Usually a few months before the exams | Not yet released |
| Practical exams (Class 12) and internal assessment | Usually January–February | Check your school's circular |
| Theory exams (Class 10 and 12) | Expected from mid-February 2027 | Unconfirmed |
| Class 10 second (improvement) exam | Expected around May, under the two-exam system | Unconfirmed |
| Results | Usually in May | — |
Class 10: The Two-Exam System
CBSE has introduced two board exam opportunities for Class 10. The first (main) exam is held in February–March. A second, optional exam later lets students try to improve their scores in a limited number of subjects. Check the latest CBSE circular for the exact rules on eligibility, subjects and how the better score is counted.
Our advice: treat the February exam as the real exam. The second exam is a safety net, not a plan.
Paper Pattern at a Glance
| Class 10 | Class 12 | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical marks split | 80 theory + 20 internal assessment (most main subjects) | Theory + practical or project (split varies by subject) |
| Question types | MCQs, assertion-reason, case-based, short and long answers | MCQs, case-based, short and long answers |
| Duration | 3 hours (most subjects) | 3 hours (most subjects) |
| Focus | Competency-based questions testing application, not just memory | Concept application plus NCERT-based theory |
Always check the current year's sample paper on cbseacademic.nic.in for the exact pattern of each subject.
Month-by-Month Preparation Plan
November — Finish and Fix: complete any chapters still pending; make one-page notes for each chapter (see how to study NCERT books); start chapter-wise previous year questions.
December — First Full Revision: revise every subject once, completely; prepare well for the pre-board exams; finish practical files, projects and lab work.
January — Papers and Pre-Boards: take the pre-boards seriously, like a rehearsal (see our pre-board exam tips); solve at least 4–5 full sample papers per main subject under timed conditions; keep a mistake notebook.
February — Final Revision: revise formulas, diagrams, maps, definitions and grammar rules daily; use the gaps between papers for targeted revision of the next subject; sleep 7–8 hours.
For a detailed week-by-week table, see the 100-day board exam plan.

Where a Home Tutor Helps Most
- Planning: a realistic timetable for the remaining weeks.
- Weak chapters: focused one-on-one sessions on the topics that pull marks down.
- Paper checking: strict checking against the marking scheme, with feedback on presentation.
- Accountability: a regular schedule keeps students on track during pre-board pressure.
