How Many Crows in Agra?
One sunny morning, Emperor Akbar was walking in the palace garden with Birbal. Crows were cawing on every wall and tree.
Akbar smiled. He liked to test his clever minister. "Birbal," he said, "tell me exactly how many crows there are in Agra."
Birbal thought for a moment and said, "Ninety-five thousand, four hundred and sixty-three, Your Majesty."
"Are you sure?" asked Akbar. "What if I count them and find more?"
"Then some crows from nearby towns must be visiting their relatives here," said Birbal.
"And if I find fewer?" asked Akbar. "Then some of our crows must have gone to visit relatives in other towns," replied Birbal with a bow. Akbar laughed so hard that he had to sit down, and he gave Birbal a gift for his quick wit.
Moral of the story
A quick and calm mind can find an answer to even the trickiest question.
