The Hare and the Tortoise
A hare was always boasting. "I am the fastest animal in the forest!" he said. "Nobody can beat me."
A quiet tortoise said, "Let us have a race." All the animals laughed, and the hare laughed loudest of all. "You? Race me? All right!"
The race began. The hare shot off like an arrow and was soon far ahead. Looking back, he could not even see the tortoise. "I have plenty of time," he yawned. "I'll take a little nap under this tree."
The tortoise kept walking, slowly and steadily, step after step. He did not stop, not even once.
When the hare woke up, the sun was setting. He ran as fast as he could, but it was too late. The tortoise was already crossing the finish line, and all the animals were cheering.
Moral of the story
Slow and steady wins the race. Never be proud or lazy.
खरगोश और कछुआ
एक खरगोश हमेशा डींग मारता रहता था। "मैं जंगल का सबसे तेज़ जानवर हूँ!" वह कहता, "मुझे कोई नहीं हरा सकता।"
एक शांत कछुए ने कहा, "चलो, दौड़ लगाते हैं।" सब जानवर हँस पड़े और खरगोश सबसे ज़ोर से हँसा। "तुम? मुझसे दौड़ोगे? ठीक है!"
दौड़ शुरू हुई। खरगोश तीर की तरह भागा और जल्दी ही बहुत आगे निकल गया। पीछे मुड़कर देखा तो कछुआ दिख भी नहीं रहा था। जम्हाई लेते हुए वह बोला, "मेरे पास बहुत समय है। इस पेड़ के नीचे थोड़ी झपकी ले लेता हूँ।"
कछुआ धीरे-धीरे, लगातार, कदम पर कदम चलता रहा। वह एक बार भी नहीं रुका।
जब खरगोश की आँख खुली, तो सूरज ढल रहा था। वह पूरी ताकत से दौड़ा, पर देर हो चुकी थी। कछुआ जीत की रेखा पार कर रहा था और सारे जानवर तालियाँ बजा रहे थे।
कहानी की सीख
धीरे-धीरे पर लगातार चलने वाला जीतता है। कभी घमंड या आलस मत करो।
